With a total area of approx. 5 square kilometers, Nara Park embraces Kofukuji Temple, Kasuga Shrine, Todaiji Temple and the Wakakusayama hill. The deer which roam about in this park are popular.

Kofukuji Temple is famous for its five-storied pagoda which is reflected in the Sarusawa-no-ike pond. The Great Buddha image of Todaiji Temple is well known as Nara’s Daibutsu. In February and August, the Kasuga Shrine, the vermilion-lacquered structures of which contrast strikingly with the green of the surrounding woods, holds an event called “Mantoro” in which about 3,000 stone and hanging lanterns installed along the approach to the shrine and the corridors are all lighted. The nearest station is Nara Station on the Kintetsu Railway Nara line.
