This area is located west of the city of Nara. Here stands Yakushiji Temple which is representative of the Hakuho Culture of the 7th century. The East Pagoda (“Toto”), which remains as it was built, is famous for its elegant beauty. Toshodaiji Temple was founded by the Monk Ganjin who arrived from China after repeated perilous attempts to get to Japan. Its main hall (“Kondo”) is Japan’s largest extant Tempyo-style architecture. The nearest station is Nishinokyo Station on the Kintetsu Railway Kyoto line.
