In addition to Horyuji Temple whose main hall is the world’s oldest wooden building, the town of Ikaruga includes Hokiji Temple, Horinji Temple, Chuguji Temple and other temples erected in antiquity. Horyuji Temple has many treasures such as Kudara Kannon, an image of the bodhisattva Kannon (Kudara refers to the Korean kingdom of Paeche). This image, combined with the image of the bodhisattva Miroku (Maitreya) in the adjacent Chuguji Temple, indicates a close relationship between Korea and Japan. To get there, walk from JR Horyuji Station or take a bus at Tsutsui Station or Nara Station on the Kintetsu Railway line.
