This is a very impressive tour to visit five World Heritages in Kansai.
You can start this tour from Kansai International Airport, reaching to wonderful and historical sites including World Heritages.

1st day

Access

Nara, Ikaruga, Horyuji-temple

Only one hour train from Kansai International Airport. And 20 minutes walking from Houryuji station to Horyuji-temple.

Prince Shotoku, who was an authentic leader in Japan in 7th century, built Horyuji temple. This temple is the oldest wooden one in the world and one of the World Heritages together with Hokkiji temple and Hourinji temple which are located near by.
Please enjoy precious Buddhist images, .works of art in silent surroundings.

Nara city, Nara park, Todaiji temple and Kasuga shrine

It takes only ten minutes by JR train from Horyuji station to Nara station.
You can use Nara Kotsu bus from Nara station to Nara park.

Todaiji temple was the one the Emperor of Japan made to wish for peace. It is quite famous for its Great Buddhist image which is 15 meters high.
Kasuga Taisha Shrine is as old as Todaiji temple and registered as World Heritage.
One of the eye-catchers of this Shrine is the tremendous hefty numbers of lanterns which believers or supporters of this Shrine donated. In the Nara Park which surrounds Todaiji temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine, you can find thousands of deer which Nara people are fond of very much.
It is considered to be a messenger of a God in Kasuga Taisha Shrine.

Kyoto

Forty minutes from Nara to Kyoto by JR or Kintetsu line.

You can enjoy not only Japanese foods but also Japanese traditional entertainments in Gion at night.

2nd day

Kyoto city, Kiyomizu temple in Higashiyama, Shimogamo shrine

You are highly recommended to use bus, MRT and other public transportation.

In Higashiyama area, you can enjoy wonderful temples which represent Kyoto. You can enjoy beautiful scenery of these temples. You can also enjoy souvenir shops.
Shimogamo shrine, which is located north side of Kiyomizu temple, is also one of the World Heritages. You can find clear red shrine building.

Mt. Hiei, Otsu city, Shiga prefecture

Mt, Hiei is located in between Kyoto and Shiga. You can visit there by public bus and cable car from Kyoto to the summit of Mt. Hiei.

Mt. Hiei is located in between Kyoto and Shiga. The whole mountain is considered to be sacred as a temple, consisting three part.
The founder of Enryakuji temple is Saicho. The holy flame in front of the statue lit by Saicho is known as the Eternal Light as has burned continuously for 1200 years without even once being extinguished.

Otsu city, Ogoto and Katada in Shiga

Please visit Otsu and Samamoto from Mt. Hiei by cable cars.

Sakamoto is located on the foot of Mt. Hiei, where many monks live. It has peaceful atmosphere. The stonewall is quite famous as many craftsmen lived there.
Otsu city which faces Lake Biwa , has a lot of hot springs and have rich nation has delighted high celebrities from the past. The tale of Genji is written by murasakisikibu in Ishiyamadera-temple in Otsu city.

兵庫県姫路市 姫路城

It takes about 100 minutes from Ohtsu to Himeji. If you use Shinkansen from Kyoto, it takes about 60 minutes.

Himeji castle is one of the most famous castles in Japan and is one of the World Heritage.
As the color of bailey is purely white, this castle is compared to a white egret.
You can visit big temple called Shoshazan Enkyoji temple in its neighbourhood.

You can find convenience to use subway which spreads center of Osaka.

Osaka castle which is located in big public park is one of the symbols in Osaka.
The original Osaka castle built by Hideyoshi Toyotomi was broken down. The present one is the third one. Tremendous Osaka citizens donated fund to make new Osaka castle 80 years ago. You can enjoy historical exhibition in this castle.
Together with Osaka Historical Museum near Osaka castle, then you can enjoy Osaka’s wonderful history.

Mt. Koya, Wakayama

60 minutes train from Namba and transit to cable from Gokuraku-bashi to the summit.

Kukai, one of the most famous Buddhist monks in Japanese history, founded Shingon sect in Mt. Koya. Mt. Koya is considered a Buddhist temple as a whole. The main Buddhist temple is Kongobuji temple. It has beautiful Buddhist arts, architectural structures.
You can stay in Buddhist temples and have an experience Buddhist training.

Tokushima

You can visit Tokushima from Mt. Koya via Osaka. It takes about 150 minutes by highway express bus from Osaka to Tokushima.

Tokushima is one of the prefectures in Shikoku island. It has big national resources like mountains, valleys, rivers, etc.
You can enjoy traditional puppet show called Joruri and Awa odori festival in summer.

Shikoku eighty-eight Buddhistic temples

You can visit Shikoku eighty-eight Buddhistic temples by bus from Tokushima city.

The symbol of Tokushima-city is Mt. Bizan. There are a park and an observation platform at the summit of this mountain. In Awa Odori Kaikan, you can experience Awa odori festival in any seasons.
You can find a starting point of a pilgrimage of Shikoku eighty-eight Buddhistic temples.

25 minutes from Tokushima to Awaji

Awajishima island is located in between Tokushima and Kobe. It is warm and rich natural island. This island is said the Japanese God gave the first birth in the myth of a nation.
Joruri is quite popular entertainment in this island. You can enjoy performances in five times a day in Awaji Ningyo-Za.

Arima Hot Spring, Kobe, Hyogo

80 minutes from Awaji to Sannomiya. 30 minutes train from Sannomiya.

Arima Hot Spring is considered one of the oldest one in Japan. And it is quite popular among people as it is located near by big cities. As Hideyoshi Toyotomi, the ruler of Japan in 16th century loved this hot springs, it was named after “Hot Spring of Taiko.” Taiko is another naming of Hideyoshi Toyotomi.
You can enjoy two kinds of hot springs. One is reddish one, another one is transparent one.

5th day

Sakai Osaka, Tomb of Emperor Nintoku

It takes 60 minutes by express highway bus from Arima to Osaka. And another 30 minutes from Osaka to Sakai by JR or Nankai railway.

Sakai had been flourishing as a gate to Japanese capital Asuka at the 5th century. The world largest Tomb of Emperor Nintoku was built for the symbol of Japanese national wealth toward foreign people.
In 15th century, Sakai merchants who made business with foreign countries sponsored its culture. Sen no Rikyu was the founder of tea ceremony from Sakai culture in 15th century.
