21 places on the main route where we can experience Japanese history
21 scenes of major events from Japanese history which took place in the Kansai region are followed virtually in the order in which they occurred.
The series is by the artist Okamoto Tatsuharu, a native of Kyoto, who spent a year working on it. The main Ise~Asuka~Nara~Kyoto~Osaka~Kobe route of the Rekishi Kaido, and the “21 Scenes from the Rekishi Kaido” linking the locations of major events in Japanese history more or less in the order in which they occurred have a strange latent charm which brings the flow of distant times to life in the present and invites onlookers to step back into the romance of the past.
