Main route Osaka Dotonbori Area

This course takes you to Osaka’s “Minami” area, an energized part of the city where locals seek fun and excitement via the cultural arts and entertainment.

Point
You can move between Kyoto and Osaka in about 30minutes by JR Special Rapid Service, 40 minutes by Hankyu/Keihan limited express. The Osaka castle has been renewed. The display has become massive. In the night of summer, opening hours are extended. You can enjoy a nightview and cool yourself from the donjon. We recommended you to take on “Aqua Liner” from Yodoyabashi, Temmabashi, Osaka bay, and Teikoku hotel.

National Bunraku Theater
This theater was built to preserve and promote the traditional performing art of bunraku puppetry. Besides regular bunraku performances, it hosts kabuki, hogaku (Japanese music), buto (dancing) and other traditional performing arts shows. There is a gallery with articles and information on Japan's performing arts

Hozenji-Yokocho
The alleyways of street stalls that crisscross Tenryuzan-Hozen-ji Temple of the Joto Sect of Buddhism are where worshippers keep each other company. The area is also famous as the setting of the novel "Meoto Zenzai" by Sakunosuke Oda that recounts the life of a married couple whose marriage survives despite the persistent wastefulness, debauchery and unkept promises of an erring husband.

Dotonbori Area
The Dotonbori area is where Osaka's beginnings as a city of theaters can be traced backed to. This repuation grew after 1626 when several theaters moved into the area along the Doton-bori Canal after it had been planned and dug by cousins Doton Yasui and Kuhee Yasui. In the early Showa Period, five theaters - Naniwa-za, Naka-za, Kado-za, Asahi-za and Benten-za - drew strong crowds through their doors.
