Main route Asuka

Asuka village was the center of Japan around the 5th century. Buddhism was brought there and developed.
There are historic sites of the Court, temples, ancient tombs, buried cultural assets, and important historical cultural heritages such as mountains, rivers, and so on that are mentioned in the “Manyoshu (poetic anthology).”
You can enjoy the characteristic historical atmosphere of thousands years ago.

People and regulations such as the “Protection of Old Capital Law” and “Special Treatment for Asuka Village Law” protect the historical scenery.

The nearest station is Asuka Station (Kintetsu). You can go there by limited express from Abenobashi Station (Kintetsu)[nest to Tennoji station (JR)] in Osaka. You should change trains at Yagi Station and Kashiharajingu from Kyoto, Nara, Ise, Nagoya, and Shima. We recommend you to rent a bicycle near Asuka station and visit Asuka in half or a whole day.

You can get information at an information bureau in front of Asuka station(Kintetsu) or at the “National Asuka History Museum” in front of Takamatsuzuka ancient tomb.

National Asuka History Museum
They introduce historical spots in Asuka through screen.

10 minutes from Asuka Station (Kintetsu, Yoshino Line) on foot.

Takamatsuzuka Ancient Tomb
It was discovered in 1972. It shapes circle. They say that it was a tomb in the 7th or 8th century. There is a room made of stone inside the tomb. Colorful wall paintings are on the wall. You can watch the appearances inside the tomb including wall paintings in Takamatsuzuka Wall Painting Museum next to the tomb.

Ishibutai Ancient Tomb
It has the room made of stone. More than 30 stones weigh 75 tons were used in the big tomb. It is said that the tomb is for Sogano Umako.
Admission fee:200yen
Near Ishibutaimae bus stop (Nara Buses).

Mizuochi iseki Ruins
Nakano Oeno Oji and Tenchi emperor made the first clock in Japan. The ruin is a mark of the clock. Near Asukagakkoumae bus stop (Nara Buses).

Asukadera Temple
It is the first regular temple founded by Sogano Umako. The statue of Buddha in the temple is the oldest one in Japan.
